Bureau, Oct 11: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will be the BJP’s star campaigner for Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh Assembly polls, in all of which the saffron party is looking to retain power.

According to BJP sources in the national capital, Adityanath could also campaign in Telangana and Mizoram Assembly elections.

It is understood that BJP chief Amit Shah wants Hindutva to be the party’s poll plank in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh assembly polls to woo the core Hindu voters.

If sources are to be believed, in case the BJP’s Hindutva strategy yields result in the Assembly polls, the party might use it the crucial Lok Sabha polls next year.

The BJP is also unlikely to give nomination to any Muslim ticket aspirant in the Assembly polls for the three states where it is in power on the lines of what it did in Uttar Pradesh elections.

While Chhattisgarh will go to polls in two phases on November 12 and 20, the Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram Assembly elections will be held on November 28. Polling in Rajasthan and Telangana will be held on December 7.

Sources said Adityanath would embark on a tour of the poll-bound states after 'Navratri'.

This is mainly because the chief minister, who is also ‘Peethadishwar’ and ‘Mahant’ (head priest) of the Gorakhnath Math, observes fast for the nine days of the 'Navratri' festival.

''Adityanath will address election rallies and hold road shows in the poll-bound states... his programme is being finalised,'' a senior UP BJP leader told The Nationalist.

According to him, there is a large number of followers of the 'Nath' sect, to which Adityanath belongs, in Rajasthan’s Alwar, Churu, Sikar and Jaipur districts.

“Adityanath's image of a hard-line Hindutva leader will come handy for us in the poll-bound states, especially in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan,'' the leader said.

The saffron-clad Uttar Pradesh chief minister had extensively campaigned for the BJP in the Karnataka and Gujarat Assembly polls.

Besides, the BJP also plans to deploy Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya in the campaign to woo the backward caste votes.

Sources said around two dozen UP ministers and several senior state leaders would be deployed for campaigning in the poll-bound states.

The ministers and BJP leaders, who hail from the Uttar Pradesh districts of Lalitpur, Jhansi, Agra, Etawah and Chitrakoot, which share borders with Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, have been given the responsibility of ensuring victory for the party nominees in the bordering districts of the two poll-bound states.
