The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to fight the 2019 Lok Sabha election under the leadership of Amit Shah. It has also postponed the due election to the post of party president, sources told The Nationalist

The tenure of BJP chief Amit Shah was scheduled to end in January 2019. The decision was taken at a two-day national executive meet that started in New Delhi on Saturday. Shah was elected as the BJP president in August 2014.

Inaugurating the meet, Shah vowed to work to ensure the BJP's return to power in the 2019 Lok Sabha election. He said this victory will be bigger than the one in 2014. "We have the most-popular leader in the world [Prime Minister Narendra Modi]," Shah said.

The BJP's national executive is meeting almost after a year. On the first day of the meet, the party adopted the slogan 'ajey BJP' (invincible BJP). The party's national office bearers and presidents of state units attended the meet.

With the 2019 Lok Sabha election around the corner, the BJP is expected to brainstorm on combating the Opposition's attack on the Modi government over issues like rising fuel prices, demonetisation, Rafale deal, among others.

Attended by key BJP leaders from across the country and the national leadership, the meeting is also expected to see the party strategise for the upcoming state assembly polls and the Lok Sabha election.
