In an apparent bid to counter possible unity among the BSP, SP, Congress and RLD in UP, the BJP has undertaken a special exercise to woo voters belonging to the most backward castes or MBCs.
Since the second week of August, the BJP has been holding community gatherings of different MBCs in Lucknow’s Visvesvaraya auditorium under the banner of the party’s OBC Morcha. So far, the party has invited representatives of Prajapati (August 7), Rajbhar (August 8) and Nai, Savita, Thakur and Sen communities (August 9) to make them aware about the works undertaken by the BJP government for the OBCs.
Deputy CM KP Maurya has been tasked with organising such events, with CM Yogi Adityanath addressing the gatherings. The BJP has also involved Babu Ram Nishad in this mission. While Adityanath made Rajbhar community aware about his plan to develop a grand memorial in the name of King Suheldev in Bahraich district, Maurya informed Nai, Thakur, Savita and Sen members about his plan to name at least one road in every district after Bihar’s ex-CM Karpoori Thakur.

BJP’s OBC Morcha plans to hold a gathering of Nishad, Kashyap, Bind, Kewat and Kahar castes on August 24. On August 25, representatives of Bhurji, Bhadnhuja, Kandu and Kasaudhan castes will be invited to attend the gathering in Lucknow.
