The much-awaited expansion of Karnataka Cabinet is scheduled on December 22, the JD(S)-Congress coalition government decided at the coordination meeting held on Wednesday. As per the understanding reached by two the two alliance partners, six MLAs from the Congress will be inducted, along with two legislators from the JD(S).

"We had coordination meeting today as Assembly session is approaching. We spoke about Cabinet expansion which will take place on December 22. Two MLAs from JD(S) and six MLAs from Congress will be inducted in the Cabinet," Siddaramaiah said, following the high-level meeting between the two sides.

After the coalition government was formed in May this year, a total of 30 ministers were sworn-in, comprising of 12 from the JD(S) and 15 from the Congress. 1 MLA from the BSP and 1 independent legislator were also accommodated in the Cabinet.

Kumaraswamy, who took oath as the Chief Minister, had then assured the Congress that the party would get a greater share in the next round of Cabinet expansion.

Notably, the Congress has over double the number of JD(S) legislators in the assembly. While the latter has 38 MLAs in the assembly, the Congress had won 80 constituencies. The two parties had inked a post-poll pact to oust the BJP -- which had emerged as the single-largest party.
