New Delhi: The BJP called a day-long meeting of all its chief ministers and deputy chief ministers on Tuesday and fine-tuned its strategy for 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The meeting was presided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah.

“Modi and Shah took stock of all BJP-ruled states from their respective chief ministers. In the meeting Modi sent a clear message to all CMs that no post or responsibility was permanent. He said that party was evaluating everyone’s performance, right from PM to CMs and that if each one of us want to lead the state,we have to keep performing constantly,” a senior BJP leader told The Nationalist.

Party sources said that Modi gave his own example during the meeting. “I reshuffle my cabinet many times for good governance, performance and delivery. You remove non-performing ministers, talk to party president and make changes in the cabinet. No one should think that he is a permanent minister or chief minister. You are answerable to people. Party is also answerable. If we lose faith and trust of the people, we will lose everything,” a party source claimed Modi to have said in the meeting.

A senior BJP leader said: “Modi and Shah's messages to CMs indicate that they are not happy with performances of some CMs. There is a possibility that in near future some CMs may be replaced by the party.”

Sources said the party also discussed the various central government’s initiatives for the poor and backward classes. Modi directed the CMs to reach out to each and every household of Dalits in their respective states and make them aware of their constitutional rights. The BJP also decided to highlight the National Register of Citizens (NRC) during the campaigning of the upcoming General elections.

Meanwhile, Shah told all BJP CMs to “visit all constituencies in your respective states and convey on grass-route level how the Modi government is doing everything for the welfare of the people
