RJD chief Lalu Yadav to surrender before CBI court in Ranchi today

 Ranchi/ Rashtriya Janata Dal president and fodder scam convict Lalu Prasad Yadav is scheduled to surrender before a CBI court in Ranchi today.

The Jharkhand high court had earlier on August 24 rejected lalu’s bail extension plea and asked the RJD chief surrender by August 30.

In his petition, the former Bihar chief minister had requested a three-month extension of his bail on medical grounds.

Lalu has been held guilty in the fodder scam and was imprisoned following a court order. However, due to poor health, he was allowed to take treatment at the Asian Heart Institute in Mumbai.

On August 17, the Jharkhand high court had extended Lalu's provisional bail till August 27.Lalu has been convicted in four cases of the multi-crore rupees fodder scam.

The cases relate to illegal withdrawal of money from government treasuries in different districts for the animal husbandry department in undivided Bihar in the 1990s when the Rashtriya Janata Dal was in power in the state.On September 30, 2013, he was convicted in the first fodder scam case related to the Chaibasa Treasury.

The former Bihar chief minister was again convicted in another case related to the Chaibasa Treasury on January 24, 2018. On February 23 and March 19, he was convicted in cases related to the Deoghar Treasury and the Dumka Treasury respectively.
