The BJP National President Amit Shah on Sunday dared the AICC President Rahul Gandhi and Congress Party to oppose the 123rd Constitutional Amendment Bill 2018 in Rajya Sabha.

The Bill, passed by the Lok Sabha unanimously on Thursday, awaits approval from the Rajya Sabha where NDA lacks number and requires support of the UPA. It provides constitutional status to the commission for other backward classes (OBCs) and is aimed at helping the BJP to outreach backward classes before 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Addressing a gathering at Backley ground in Chandauli ditrict, Shah claimed that by introducing the Bill, the Modi government has given respect long overdue to OBCs in the country. “I ask Rahul Gandhi if his Congress party will support the Bill (in Rajya Sabha). If they did not support the Bill, the Congress will be exposed for not standing to the welfare of OBCs,” dared the BJP National President.

Shah reiterated that the route to Delhi goes through Uttar Pradesh. “The BJP will win no less than 74 seats in Uttar Pradesh even if Bua-Bhatija-Baba (BSP-SP-Congress) join hands together against the BJP. It will not make any difference to BJP which will emerge stronger than ever after Lok Sabha polls,” claimed Shah.

Grilling Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, Mayawati and other on the National Register for Citizens (NRC) issue, Shah said that he has been asking the Rahul Gandhi for the past four days to clarify his party’s stand on the NRC issue but he is shying away to answer.

“We will not allow a single illegal Bangladeshi immigrant to stay in Assam. They will be driven away from across the country. The Congress and other political parties, who are supporting their cause, will also meet the same fate when people of the country vote them out of power,” said Shah.

Holding the SP, BSP and Congress government for the backwardness of Uttar Pradesh, he asked their leaders what their governments did for the development of the state when they were in power. “The UPA government gave only 3.20 lakh crore to Uttar Pradesh in 10 years of its rule while the Modi government sanctioned Rs 8.8 lakh crore, Rs 4.77 crore more, in just four years for its rule for the development of the state.

Under Modi and Yogi governments, development in Uttar Pradesh has been taken to a new high. India will not progress till Uttar Pradesh joins the race. Poorvanchal Expressway and Bundelkhand Defense Corridor will change the fate of the state,” claimed Shah
