Vajpayee's final journey: Modi, Shah, Advani pay tribute to ex-PM at BJP HQ

DELHI/ The mortal of former PM Atal bihari Vajpayee were taken to  the BJP office from his residence on the Krishna Menon Marg in the national capital. Amid chants of ‘Atal Bihari Amar Rahe’, a decorated gun carriage carrying the mortal remains of Vajyapee, who passed away last evening, reached to BJP HQ on DD Updadhyay Marg around 11:15 am.

A huge crowd has gathered outside the BJP headquarters where the top party leadership including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party chief Amit Shah and several union ministers paid their last respects.

Vajpayee,93, passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here last evening after a prolonged illness.

An astute politician known for his great oratory skills, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee won the hearts of many across the political spectrum with his wit and sobriety and was by far one of the most respected leaders in the country’s history.

Reacting to Vajpayee's demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "I have no words, I am filled with emotions right now. Our respected Atal ji is no more. Every moment of his life he had dedicated to the nation."

The top Congress leadership condoled the demise of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today with party chief Rahul Gandhi saying India had lost a great son who will be missed. 

Several roads in the capital are closed for the public in view of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's funeral, the Delhi Traffic Police said today.
